Candi Merak

Candi Merak yang terletak di Dukuh Merak Desa Karangnongko Kecamatan Karangnongko Klaten, pertama kali ditemukan sekitar tahun 1925. Menurut sejarah sebelumnya dilahan tersebut hanya tanah kosong yang terdapat pohon besar yang waktu itu bernama Pohon Joho. Candi ini memiliki tiga candi perwara dan satu candi induk yang menghadap ke arah timur. Saat ini kondisi keempat candi tersebut belum seutuhnya dipugar. Candi ini diperkirakan dibangun pada abad XI - X Masehi oleh kerajaan Mataram kuna. Candi ini memiliki cukup banyak relief untuk ukuran candi kecil dan berbeda dari candi-candi Hindu lainnya semisal Candi Gebang.

Candi Merak is a Hindu temple, simply because on the side facing the entrance of the temple complex there is a statue of Ganesha. This temple named Candi Merak as possible in the past, around the temple there are many bird nests Peacock. This temple has three and a chapel overlooking the main temple to the east. Currently the fourth condition of the temple has not been completely refurbished. The temple is expected to be built in XI century - X AD by the ancient kingdom of Mataram Hindu. This temple was started investigated by the Department of Antiquities since 1925, and for some reason has not been completed. This temple has quite a lot of relief for different sizes of small temples and other Hindu temples such as the Temple Gebang. Even in some reliefs, placing it almost similar to the Temple Sojiwan, Mendut, and Candi Gana is on the side of the entrance stairs.
